How to get your business to show up on AI searches

Make your business show up when people ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Mode, Claude, Perplexity or Copilot. What each AI search uses, and a 7-step checklist for your website and listings.

Updated 24 October 2026

“AI search” isn't one place. When your customers ask an AI for a recommendation, the answer may come from ChatGPT, Google's AI Mode or AI Overviews, the Gemini app, Claude, Perplexity or Microsoft Copilot — and each one finds businesses in a slightly different way. The good news: the same core work gets you into all of them.

Where each AI search gets its information

The 7-step checklist

1. Find out where you stand

Ask each AI two questions: one with your name (“What is Sharma Classes Lucknow and what are their fees?”) and one without (“Best SSC coaching in Lucknow?”). Note whether you appear, whether the facts are right, and which websites each AI cites. Those cited sites are your target list.

2. Let AI crawlers read your website

Check your robots.txt doesn't block OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot or Bingbot. Also check your CDN or security plugin isn't blocking “AI bots”. Which bots and why.

3. Make your text visible without JavaScript

Most AI crawlers don't run JavaScript (Vercel). If your website builder loads content with scripts, AI sees a blank page. Test it with our free AI Visibility Checker.

4. State your facts plainly

One page that says what you do, where, for whom, prices or fee ranges, timings, results and contact details — in sentences, not only images or PDFs. AI answers “what is X, how much does it cost” from exactly this.

5. Claim and complete your profiles

Google Business Profile (feeds Gemini, AI Mode and Maps), Bing Places (feeds Copilot), and your industry's directories — Justdial and Sulekha for most local businesses, Practo for doctors, Shiksha for education, Zomato for restaurants, MagicBricks/99acres for property. Use the exact same name, address and phone everywhere.

6. Get mentioned where AI looks

This matters most. Brand mentions across the web are the strongest signal linked to AI visibility (Ahrefs). Pitch the writers of “best X in your city” articles the AIs cited, answer recommendation threads on Reddit and Quora honestly, and publish short YouTube videos with your name and city.

7. Keep it fresh and re-check monthly

AI assistants favour recently updated pages (Ahrefs). Update prices, results and FAQs, then ask the same two questions every month to see what moved.

Frequently asked questions

How do I get my business listed on AI?

There is no sign-up form or paid listing for AI answers. AI search tools find businesses by crawling the web: your website, Google Business Profile, directories, articles and reviews. Being clearly present in those places is how you get “listed”.

How do I get my business on Gemini?

Gemini leans on Google's data. Keep your Google Business Profile complete and consistent with your website, make sure Google-Extended isn't blocked in robots.txt, and work on normal Google rankings — Gemini and Google AI Mode draw heavily on pages Google already trusts.

How do I get my website to show up in AI searches?

Allow AI search crawlers in robots.txt, make sure page text is in the HTML (not only loaded by JavaScript), publish clear facts — what you do, where, prices — and get mentioned on the websites AI cites for your category.

Is optimizing for AI search different from SEO?

It overlaps a lot. Google's AI Overviews mostly cite pages that already rank. ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity rely more on mentions across directories, articles and forums, so off-site presence matters more there. This is often called GEO.

How long does it take to show up in AI search?

Technical fixes can show within weeks once pages are re-crawled. Earning mentions on the sites AI trusts usually takes a few months. Check the same questions monthly to see progress.
